Regional Caribbean Public Accounts Committees and Trade Scrutiny Workshop in Trinidad

The Leader of the Opposition, Jamale Pringle, is adamant that the Public Accounts Committee be allocated more constitutional power as he actively explores avenues to protect taxpayer’s money.

In pursuit of this objective, he will be attending a regional workshop on the work of Public Accounts Committees and Parliamentary Trade scrutiny being held at the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago from 27 – 29 February 2024.

CPA UK, in partnership with the Trinidad Parliament, will host this regional workshop. Bringing together committee Chairs, Members and Clerks, this workshop will facilitate peer-to-peer discussions on how to enhance effective scrutiny of government spending and trade policy. It will aim to discuss the challenges to parliamentary oversight and come up with solutions and techniques for effective committee inquiries.

Participants will also have the opportunity to strengthen their networks and build their contacts in the areas of public financial scrutiny and trade, in the UK and the Caribbean.

The All Saints East & St. Luke’s MP, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee seeks to maintain checks and balances, accountability and transparency, which, he said, are the people’s inherent rights.
