The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs is encouraging eligible women in Barbuda to take advantage of free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening services aimed at promoting early detection and preventing cervical cancer.

In a public notice, the ministry said HPV is a common virus that can lead to cervical cancer if left undetected. Health officials noted that screening can identify changes before they become serious, allowing for timely treatment and improved health outcomes.

The ministry stressed the importance of regular screening, describing early detection as a key factor in reducing the risk of cervical cancer and saving lives.

Women in Barbuda are being urged to participate in the programme through the Barbuda Health and Wellness Clinic, where screenings are available during the week.

Officials are encouraging residents seeking additional information to contact their nearest health facility or the Ministry of Health.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve women’s health services and promote preventive healthcare across Antigua and Barbuda.
