Man Jailed 3½ Years for Sexually Assaulting Five-Year-Old Great-Niece

A High Court judge has sentenced a man to three years and six months in prison after he admitted to sexually assaulting his five-year-old great-niece.
Justice John Spencer imposed the sentence on Friday after the defendant pleaded guilty last month to a single count of serious indecency.
The offence occurred between March and September 2024 while the child was visiting her grandmother. The court heard that the abuse occurred after the child’s grandmother briefly left the room where they had been watching television together.
The incident came to light after the child returned home and complained of pain to her father. Although he urged the child’s mother to report the matter, no report was made until he contacted police in January 2025. A medical examination later found signs of an infection.
Following his arrest, the defendant admitted during a police interview that he had inappropriately touched the child but denied digitally penetrating her.
The man, who was 56 at the time of the offence, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
