Tropical Wave Set to Bring Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds to Antigua and Barbuda

A tropical wave moving through the Eastern Caribbean is expected to bring unsettled weather across Antigua and Barbuda this afternoon and evening, prompting officials to urge residents to remain alert for thunderstorms and other hazardous conditions.
Climatologist Dale Destin said the system is likely to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms capable of generating between 3 and 12 millimetres (0.12 to 0.5 inches) of rainfall.
Although significant rainfall is not anticipated, Destin cautioned that some thunderstorms could become intense enough to produce brief heavy showers, strong wind gusts and frequent lightning, creating the potential for localized flooding and other disruptions.

Weather conditions are forecast to improve by Sunday as the tropical wave exits the area. The outlook calls for a low, 30 percent chance of showers, with easterly winds ranging from 12 to 18 mph and gusts reaching as high as 28 mph.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, secure outdoor objects and take precautions when thunderstorms develop.
Destin said calmer weather is expected to return once the system moves away from the islands, adding, “Happy weekend.”
