Prime Minister Salutes Centenarians as Living Treasures of Antigua and Barbuda

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has praised the nation’s centenarians as “living treasures” whose sacrifices, resilience and contributions helped shape the country enjoyed today.
In a message marking Centenarian Week 2026, Browne said the country’s oldest citizens represent more than 800 years of collective history and experience, having lived through challenges, achievements and significant moments in Antigua and Barbuda’s development.
“Today, we celebrate individuals who have shown great resilience, journeying through a century of life,” Browne said, noting that centenarians embody wisdom, faith, perseverance and a strong commitment to family and community.

The Prime Minister said the nation’s progress is built on the sacrifices and determination of previous generations, pointing to the roads, institutions, freedoms and opportunities enjoyed today as part of their legacy.
Browne thanked the centenarians for their contributions to nation-building and for enriching their families and communities over the decades.
He also pledged continued support for the country’s elderly population, saying Antigua and Barbuda must ensure its centenarians live with dignity, respect, comfort and love.
Calling on citizens to listen to the stories and wisdom of older generations, Browne said Centenarian Week is an opportunity to celebrate not only long lives but lives that have made a lasting impact on others.
The Prime Minister extended congratulations and appreciation to all centenarians on behalf of the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, wishing them continued health, happiness and peace.
