Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Emphasizes Need for Information Commissioner

During a recent parliamentary session, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda addressed the ongoing issue of appointing an Information Commissioner for the nation.

He revealed that discussions regarding this matter had taken place in the cabinet “a few weeks ago” and that they are currently evaluating “several prospects” for the position.

Browne assured that once they finalize the shortlist, a new Information Commissioner will be appointed.

When questioned about the duration without an Information Commissioner, Browne acknowledged that it had been “possibly about 18 months.”

Despite this vacancy, he pointed out that the information offices within various Ministries are operational.

He stated, “The information offices in the various Ministries…all they need to do is to write to the information offices within the various Ministries and the information can be obtained.”
