
A magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck near Dominica early on Friday morning, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC).
The earthquake occurred at 4:51am local time (08:51 UTC) on 17 July. It was located at 15.26°N latitude and 61.33°W longitude, at a shallow depth of 5km.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre said the tremor was reported as felt because of its location and shallow depth. The event was manually processed and confirmed by a seismic technician.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
Residents who experienced the earthquake are being encouraged to submit a felt report to the UWI Seismic Research Centre to help scientists better understand the event and its effects.
Dominica lies within a seismically active region of the eastern Caribbean, where small earthquakes are relatively common due to the movement of tectonic plates.
