Source Real News Antigua: Harold Lovell, the former political leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), says the Party is now defining a new pathway and vision, even as it builds on the foundation laid by its trailblazers, including himself and formerPrime Minister Dr. Baldwin Spencer.

Other pioneers include former Deputy Political Leader Wilmoth Daniel, former MP Hilson “Brother B” Baptiste, and a host of other loyalists.

The UPP is now midweek in activities leading to its 12 th  Biennial Convention,at which mostly new faces will be contesting for various positions.

Meanwhile, Lovell says that he and Spencer – who is a trustee of the Party –are working in the background.

Lovell says the old vanguard has taken the Party to a point from which it can progress further.

He declares himself proud of the fact that the UPP is the only institution – other than the Antigua Labour Party – to have survived 31 years on the political landscape of Antigua and Barbuda.

The former political leader acknowledges the Party’s new slate of leaders, whom he is charging to uphold the integrity of the people-first organizationwhile they seek to modernize the economy once elected.

Meanwhile, Lovell says the new leadership must pay attention to the generalthrust of the organization in looking out for the people.

They must also cultivate local ownership in the economy – but not turn a blindeye to foreign direct investment, which, in any market, stimulates economicgrowth.
