ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, June 19, 2026 — The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has launched the 13th edition of its Summer Internship Programme, welcoming 17 young professionals who will spend the next six weeks gaining practical experience across the utility provider’s operations.

The programme was officially opened during a ceremony on Friday, marking the start of what APUA described as an opportunity for participants to gain hands-on workplace experience and insight into the public utilities sector.

Minister responsible for Information Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy Melford Nicholas attended the ceremony and congratulated the interns on their selection. He encouraged them to maximize the opportunity by expanding their skills and knowledge while contributing fresh ideas that could support the Authority’s modernization efforts.

Chief Executive Officer John Bradshaw said the programme has produced tangible results over the years, noting that several former participants have gone on to become members of APUA’s workforce.

Bradshaw said former interns continue to make meaningful contributions to the organization through their expertise and commitment, helping to strengthen operations and improve service delivery across Antigua and Barbuda.

While the Summer Internship Programme is now in its 13th year, APUA said it has been providing internship and work-experience opportunities for decades as part of its commitment to youth development and corporate social responsibility.

The Authority noted that several current and former managers began their professional careers as interns, demonstrating the long-term value of providing young people with opportunities to gain workplace experience.

APUA said the intake of 17 participants this year reflects its ongoing investment in youth development and the next generation of professionals. During the programme, interns will work alongside experienced staff, gain industry knowledge and contribute to projects supporting the Authority’s mission and objectives.

The Authority expressed confidence that the latest cohort will build on the programme’s legacy and wished participants a productive and rewarding experience.
