National Solid Waste Management Authority Mourns Death of Employee Okeen Lightfoot
The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Environment, is mourning the death of employee Okeen Lightfoot.
In a condolence message released on Friday, the Authority described Lightfoot as a valued colleague and friend whose dedication, kindness and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our valued colleague and friend, Mr. Okeen Lightfoot,” the statement said. “His dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to service will be remembered and cherished by us all.”
The NSWMA extended its condolences to Lightfoot’s family, friends and loved ones, saying his legacy of service would not be forgotten.
“Today, we stand together in grief—but also in gratitude for the life he lived and the impact he made,” the statement continued.
The Authority added that Lightfoot would remain in the thoughts and hearts of his colleagues, while offering prayers for his family during the difficult period.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May they find strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead.”
The statement concluded by thanking Lightfoot for his service, friendship and contribution to the Authority, saying, “You will never be forgotten.”

Okeen Lightfoot, a 29-year-old sanitation worker, was tragically killed in Antigua on May 12, 2026, when an out-of-control motor bus veered off the road and pinned him against a parked truck on All Saints Road.
Lightfoot was carrying out grass-cutting duties as a National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) employee on the northern side of the roadway when the incident occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene, which also prompted the Health Minister to visit and issue public pleas for increased vigilance and responsibility on the nation’s roadways.
