It is alleged that the money was taken from a safe in the visitors’ room at a high-end resort, whose receptionist reported the matter to the Freetown Police Station.

Reports say the pair had been staying at the resort since their arrival on March 1 and were due to depart the island on March 8, when they discovered that a sum of money was missing from their safe.

This incident reportedly occurred sometime between March 5 and 7.

When the UK visitors were assigned their room, they observed that it had an electronic four-digit combination safe.

Sometime about 9 a.m. on March 2, they said, they placed their jewelry, US$1,000D and EC$100 into the safe and it gave off an “error” code.

However, it was reportedly locked with the assistance of maintenance personnel and the combination code was reset.

The couple subsequently decided to take a trip around the island, and at about 6 p.m. on March 5 they went to the safe to get some money.

They then discovered that US$745 and the EC$100 note were missing.

The electronic safe had been inside the clothes closet room and the money had been placed in envelopes, the pair allege.

Allegedly, however, when checks were made of the safe and the room, there were no signs of either having been tampered with.
