Antigua Agronomics, a locally registered company whose principals are based in
the United Kingdom, has received its certificate from the Medicinal Cannabis
Authority, to operate in the medicinal cannabis sphere that is now being developed
here in Antigua and Barbuda.
Chief Executive Officer Ashley King, said the license grants his company the right
to cultivate cannabis, and extract the oil from the plant for medicinal use, both
locally and for export.
“We are aiming to become a global supplier in the medicinal cannabis market. We
are happy to have received our certificate, and we wish to thank everyone here who
helped us along the way,” he stated.
King said both he and his team have been traveling to and from the country over
the past several years, and there are plans to assist the country beyond the areas of
medicinal cannabis.
“We will be constantly contributing towards improving the country’s agricultural
sector, we plan to train young farmers in the aquaponics sector, as well as offer
assistance in the area of health,” he added.
The company will also be providing employment opportunities to at least a dozen
people when it begins operations here over the next several months, according to
King.
Another director, Richard O’Brien, described the operation simply as, ‘from seeds
to finished products’ such as oils, that will help in the care of cancer patients and
others with pain management issues.
Antigua-born Dwight Ateba Henry who is originally from Bolans, but who now
resides in the UK, also serves as a director of the company. (POINTE XPRESS)
