REAL NEWS: Two men from Golden Grove New Extension are in police custody, following the shooting of two Carlisle Bay Resort employees on Tuesday night, April 11, at approximately 11:30 p.m.

According to the Police, the two victims – a 33-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman – remain in stable but serious condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

The alleged perpetrators are 22 and 23 years old, respectively, and officers have confirmed that one of them also works at the hotel property.

Official reports say that several gunshots were fired as the two hotel staffers were walking toward the gate at the end of their shifts.

The male is believed to have been shot at least twice, while the female is said to have sustained about three bullet wounds to both arms and her side.

However, the wounded man managed to get to the lobby of the hotel and ask for help, while the female remained lying in a parking lot on the compound.

Both shooting victims were then rushed to the hospital.

Lawmen have not yet determined a motive for the attack.

However, some residents tell REAL News they are reminded of the June 2018 incident in which a masked man held-up two Carlisle Bay employees, making off with bags of money that reportedly amounted to $60,000.

That matter was subsequently found to be an inside job that involved an employee, Kathy-Ann Isaac of Urlings, who subsequently pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy with intent to rob, in December 2020.

It was alleged that she had conspired with Anthony “Thug Life” Govia of Freeman’s Village, who absconded after the gunpoint robbery and has not been seen since.

These residents say they are concerned that such on-site incidents – involving firearms and resort staff – will tarnish the reputation of the resort and of Antigua and Barbuda, a country that is heavily dependent on tourism.
