The table is set, and the nominees have been revealed for the highly anticipated Antigua and Barbuda Best Pepperpot and Fungee Competition launched during Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week. Food enthusiasts who have been enjoying the local cuisine on show as part of the ‘Eat Like A Local’ initiative, are eagerly awaiting the day when it will be determined which Antigua and Barbuda food spots can claim the coveted title of serving the best Pepperpot and Fungee.

Residents of Antigua and Barbuda were invited to share their favourite food spot serving up the national dish during Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week (ABRW), and today the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority unveils the following nominees, who have satisfied their patrons that they have mastered the timeless art of preparing the special dish.

“We’re thrilled by the participation we’ve seen for our first competition during Restaurant Week and are delighted to continue celebrating our cultural heritage through our cuisine. Highlighting our national dish, Pepperpot and Fungee, underscores its significance to Antigua and Barbuda’s culture”, said Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week Lead Shermain Jeremy.

The Nominees for Antigua and Barbuda’s Best Pepperpot and Fungee and the day the dish is served are:

Joe Mike’s located on the corner of Corn Alley and Nevis Street, served on Fridays

These establishments have earned their place among the nominees as a result of their culinary prowess and dedication to showcasing the authentic flavours of Antigua and Barbuda through the national dish.

Anticipation is now mounting for the final judgment this May, by a panel of international and national chefs, and cultural food personalities.

The competition is a collaboration between the Department of Culture, the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, The Ministry of Tourism, the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority.
