Teenager discovered with illegal firearm remanded to prison

Source Real News Antigua- A teenager who was found with an illegal firearm is due to reappear in theJuvenile Court (Juvenile Justice Board) on June 20.

Facing two possession-related charges – possession of a firearm, that is amodified flare gun, and possession of one .380 bullet – the 17 year-old firstappeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel last week. At that time, no plea was taken, and he was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison. Concerns have been expressed about the high incidence of youth violence andcriminal activities involving young people. Calls are being made for parents to play a more active role in the lives of theirchildren, as the Government considers legislation to hold parents accountablefor the actions of their offspring.
