Teachers in Antigua and Barbuda are continuing their sit-in protest, now in its third day, over long-standing unpaid allowances. The dispute, which dates back to 2018, began after a deadline extension for payments expired last Friday.

Education Minister Daryll Matthew responded, saying all required documentation had been submitted on time and emphasising that payment processing is not under his ministry’s control. The union is demanding payment for allowances in three categories: Technical Vocational Disciplines, Travel and Telephone Allowances for school leaders, and Ex Gratia Payments for Heads of Department.

The protest has caused significant disruption at schools across the island.
