Personnel from Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent arrived in Antigua at V.C. Bird International Airport and Nevis Pier to enhance security for the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Nearly 25 heads of state and government are set to attend the United Nations’ highly anticipated Small Island Developing States (SIDS) conference, making it the largest and arguably most significant event ever hosted by Antigua and Barbuda.
Scheduled to start in just over a week, the four-day event is expected to attract nearly 4,000 delegates, including many world leaders and ministers.
Security concerns prevented officials from revealing specific attendees but assured that a wide range of officials from both developing and developed countries would be present.
Key discussion topics are expected to focus on climate change, access to finance, and resource mobilization for SIDS, with the outcome document, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS, outlining robust deliverables for climate finance and resilience initiatives.
