Prison officer Hugh James, who was sentenced to two months for smuggling drugs into a penal institution, will be segregated for safety, according to Prison Superintendent Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Pennyfeather.

James, arrested as he reported for his shift by military personnel who detected a narcotics-like odor, will receive differential treatment due to his position of authority.

Pennyfeather highlighted ongoing concerns about prison integrity and stressed the importance of maintaining stringent security measures, including spot searches, to curb contraband smuggling by officers.
