Perry Bay Earmarked for Housing and Marina Development

The government is moving forward with plans for a major mixed-use development in the Perry Bay area, with 13 acres of land set to be surveyed for a project that will include housing, a marina and other amenities.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant disclosed the plans during Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing while providing updates on housing initiatives discussed during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

According to Merchant, Cabinet agreed that the acreage at Perry Bay should be surveyed as part of preparations for what is envisioned as a significant residential and commercial development.

“The cabinet also agreed that some 13 acres at Perry Bay will be surveyed for a housing project,” Merchant said.

He explained that the proposed development will feature condominium-style housing and a marina, along with other amenities that are still under discussion.

The project is expected to form part of the government’s broader housing programme, which includes ongoing preparations for the construction of 50 homes in the Bolans area through a partnership with the Chinese government. Merchant noted that Perry Bay is likely to become the next major phase of housing development following progress on the Bolans initiative.

Officials believe the development could provide new housing opportunities while also enhancing the economic potential of the Perry Bay area through the addition of marine and residential infrastructure.

Merchant said discussions on the scope and design of the project are continuing as the government advances plans for the survey and subsequent development of the site.

The proposed project is expected to complement wider development efforts underway across Antigua and Barbuda as the government seeks to expand housing availability and stimulate investment in key growth areas.
