EARLIER REPORT

Source Real News: Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a shootingincident on Independence Drive that left one man dead and another beingrushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.

The Police have since detained a man for questioning. According to confirmed reports, sometime around 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday,May 15, there was a shootout at the G-Spot Nightclub, which is operated by aJamaican woman, the mother of the man who was fatally shot. Allegations are that the woman’s son – Kevin Vaceannie, 24, from Yorks –would usually man the gate, performing the role of security guard. It is unclear what triggered the deadly shootout; but, up to after 10 a.m. onWednesday, investigators were on the scene trying to put the pieces together.

In the meantime, a source says the man in police custody is a familiarindividual from the Grays/Green community.

He is known to the courts andthe Police and has been implicated in previous shootings, it is alleged. Another source says the suspect is a good friend of the two shooting victimsand was present when the incident went down – and it is believed that he wasthe intended target. After the gunfire erupted, the suspect is alleged to have jumped into his car,and was pursued by the gunmen, who reportedly ran him off the road.

Therefore, he was later detained and taken to the Criminal InvestigationsDepartment (CID) for questioning about the incident.  A source claims that he was dusted for gunshot residue to ascertain whetherhe had recently discharged a firearm. But the results of that test are notknown at this time. On Wednesday morning, a part large part of Independence Drive wascordoned off by “Do Not Cross” yellow tape to prevent onlookers fromventuring into the area and contaminating the crime scene.  In a press release about the incident, STRATCOM has appealed to anyone withinformation surrounding this latest murder and shooting to contact theCriminal Investigations Department (CID) at 462-3913 or call theCrimestoppers Hotline at 800-Tips (8477).
