Matthew Miller Shines in England Under Bede’s Cricket Scholarship

London, 22 May 2026 — Young Antiguan and Barbudancricketer Matthew Miller is making an impressive start in England as the first recipient of the Antigua and Barbuda -Bede’s School cricket scholarship. Matthew has recorded strong performances in the 2026 season.
In 11 innings, he has scored 463 runs, including a top score of 102, at an impressive average of 66.14. His batting record features one century, three half-centuries, 37 fours, 27 sixes, and no ducks. He has also impressed with the ball, taking 15 wickets from 50.4 overs. His best figures are 3 for 6, alongside a bowling average of 18.67 and an economy rate of 5.53.
Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom, and Third Secretary Mr Caleb Gardiner attended one of Matthew’s matches on Thursday, 21 May. There, they saw first-hand the promise, discipline, and sporting potential he continues to demonstrate. Reflecting on his progress, High Commissioner Hill said:

“Matthew’s performances are a source of pride for Antigua and Barbuda. His progress reflects the importance of creating meaningful pathways for our young people through sport, education, and international partnership. We are pleased to see him making full use of this opportunity and representing his country with distinction. I hope to see him one day rise to the West indies line up. He has the ability”.
Established through the partnership between Antigua and Barbuda and Bede’s School, the scholarship reflects the High Commission’s commitment to strengthening ties in education, sport, youth development, and people-to-people exchange between Antigua and Barbuda and the United Kingdom.
Special thanks are extended to Calaum Jahraldo Martin, an alumnus of Bede’s School and former Antiguan and Barbudan professional footballer who introduced High Commissioner Hill, to Bede’s. Since this introduction, Bede’s has undertaken a cricket tour to Antigua in 2023 and is planning a second tour for February 2027 at which time the opportunity exists for another young talented cricketer to receive a part scholarship to Bede’s. Former Minister of Sport, the Honourable Daryll Matthew and National Hero Sir Vivian Richards have both visited Bede’s to support the developing relationship.
Matthew’s early success in England highlights what is possible when young talent is backed by access, opportunity, and the right international platform.
