Marlon Carr has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the armed robbery of three elderly people at the Mill Reef Club in 2022.

Justice Ann Marie Smith handed down the sentence last week after finding Carr guilty of three counts of aggravated robbery following a judge-alone trial.

The court heard that the victims, all in their seventies, were confronted while relaxing near a poolside cabana on April 6, 2022. They were threatened with knives, restrained with duct tape and robbed of cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables.

Carr was one of three men charged in the case. Co-accused Rickardo Bussawan pleaded guilty and received an eight-year prison sentence last year, while charges against Delon Wills were discontinued.

A key piece of evidence was a statement Carr gave to police. After initially denying involvement, he later admitted driving friends to the property and acknowledged helping to restrain one of the victims after she attempted to flee.

Carr told investigators he did not carry a weapon or receive any of the stolen items but knew the other men were armed.

He was convicted in March and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.
