Magnitude 4.1 earthquake recorded east of Antigua

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded early Tuesday morning in the Atlantic Ocean east of the Eastern Caribbean, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (SRC).

The quake occurred at 4:40 a.m. local time (08:40 UTC) at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at latitude 17.59° north and longitude 59.80° west.

SRC data shows the tremor was located approximately 233 kilometres east-northeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, 244 kilometres northeast of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and 282 kilometres east-northeast of Brades, Montserrat.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The SRC noted that the earthquake’s location and magnitude were automatically calculated and remain preliminary, pending further review by analysts.
