LISTEN : “Even Comrade Washie sounded more manly than him”

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticized UPP Senator Jonathan Wehner over comments made during a radio interview following last week’s parliamentary walkout by opposition legislators.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne radio programme, Browne took aim at Wehner’s conduct during an appearance on Observer Radio after he and other opposition senators left Parliament in solidarity with Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle.
“I heard this dude right at the top of his voice making a whole heap of noise — the same Jonathan, I mean, totally agitated. Arrogant,” Browne said.

The prime minister also mocked the senator’s presentation style, adding: “Even Comrade Washie sounded more manly than him.”
Browne suggested that Wehner was following the wrong political path and attributed his approach to influences he had experienced over the years.
“If you take into consideration his socialization as a youth, and maybe he sees his dad as, he emulates his dad. He’s going down the wrong path,” Browne said.
The comments came during a wider discussion about the opposition’s decision to leave Parliament after Pringle was barred from participating in a joint sitting because he had not taken the oath of allegiance required under the Constitution.
During the programme, another panelist suggested Wehner had been pressured into adopting his current approach, while a third argued that his conduct reflected the style of leadership demonstrated by Pringle.
Wehner was among the opposition senators who joined the walkout after the dispute over Pringle’s participation in the sitting.
The government has maintained that constitutional provisions prevented Pringle from taking part in parliamentary proceedings until he was formally sworn in, while opposition figures have challenged the handling of the matter.
Browne’s remarks represent the latest escalation in the political fallout from the parliamentary dispute, which has continued to generate debate across radio programmes and social media platforms in the days since the walkout.
