LETTER: Erna-mae’s ABS finally decides to report on the UPP

The content originally appeared on: Antigua News Room

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent actions of ABS, which have further eroded its credibility as a trusted news source.

ABS’s biased reporting, particularly regarding the resignation of Dr. Cleon Athill, highlights its failure to uphold journalistic integrity and impartiality.

It is evident that ABS has chosen to prioritize its allegiance to the Antigua Labour Party Administration over its duty to provide balanced and unbiased news coverage.

This is not only disappointing but also dangerous, as it undermines the public’s trust in the media and hinders the free flow of information.

Furthermore, ABS’s selective reporting on UPP-related news is unacceptable.

The recent protests, charitable donations, and other significant events involving the UPP have been ignored or downplayed by ABS, demonstrating a clear bias in its editorial decisions.

They ignored the following opposition events:

*The UPP protest outside parliament  *The protest outside the ministry of health by Jonathan Joseph  *Numerous charitABLE donations made by different members of the UPP *The issue of the condition of the leader of the opposition’s office. *The representation of the Leader of the Opposition at a public accounts committee meeting in Trinidad *The coverage of the request of the opposition to have the Chairman of ABEC removed *The UPP’s release on the lack of consultation for the said ABEC chairman.

As a national broadcaster, ABS has a responsibility to report news in the public interest, regardless of political affiliation.

Its failure to do so not only betrays the trust of the Antiguan and Barbudan people but also undermines the democratic process.

I urge all right-thinking citizens to hold ABS accountable for its actions by boycotting their programming, unfollowing their social media pages, and seeking out alternative sources of news.

Only through collective action can we ensure that our media remains free, fair, and impartial.

Sincerely, Hell-a-Mae
