The Potters Playing Field redevelopment is on track for completion ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), with key sporting facilities expected to be finished by the end of September.

Minister of State for Tourism and St. George MP Michael Freeland joined Antigua and Barbuda High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Karen-Mae Hill on a site visit this week to review progress on the multi-sport complex.

Project lead Prince Charles said work is advancing on three hard courts for basketball, netball and volleyball, each featuring covered seating for about 225 spectators. Contractor Agile Courts Construction is responsible for resurfacing the courts, installing lighting, fencing and other infrastructure.

The complex will also include a football and cricket field, which is expected to be grassed in August after drainage works are completed.

Officials were told the overall facility is scheduled for substantial completion by Sept. 30, ahead of CHOGM 2026, which will bring Commonwealth leaders to Antigua and Barbuda from Nov. 1-4.

Discussions during the tour also focused on security, pedestrian access and plans to repurpose existing Public Works buildings on the property into offices and workshop spaces.
