Dominant Start in UWI Games Tennis Playoffs as Shahein Fitzpatrick Sets the Tone

COOLIDGE, ANTIGUA — Under the Caribbean sun at the former army base, the sound of tennis balls echoing across the court signals more than competition—it marks a defining moment for the UWI Five Islands campus.

A Strong Opening

Shahein Fitzpatrick delivered a commanding performance in today’s playoff match against Mr Dillon, securing a straight-sets victory:

● Set 1: Fitzpatrick 6 – Dillon 2

● Set 2: Fitzpatrick 7 – Dillon 5

The result sets an early tone as players compete for a place on the UWI Five Islands team.

A Historic Opportunity

The playoffs will determine who represents the campus at the UWI Games 2026 in Trinidad and Tobago—a biennial multi-sport event uniting UWI campuses across the Caribbean in competition and regional pride.

For the young Five Islands campus, this marks its first appearance, with tennis opening a new chapter.

A Journey of Growth

Raised in the village of  All Saints, Fitzpatrick’s foundation was shaped by his community and early education. He attended J.T. Ambrose Primary SchoolAll Saints Secondary SchoolAntigua State College (ABCAS), and now UWI Five Islands—a journey defined by discipline and opportunity.

Excellence Beyond Sport

In 2023, he helped secure UWI Five Islands’ first external debating trophy at the SDG Tournament, earning Best Speaker—a testament to strong mentorship, environment, and personal drive.

“I’m grateful to be part of this journey as UWI continues to grow,” he said. “Representing my school and country is the goal, and my focus is fully committed. It’s up to us as students to embrace everything UWI has to offer—we are gifted and capable, just waiting for the opportunity to grow and excel.”

Eyes on What’s Ahead

Games continue Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with Mr Dillon vs Mr Jarique of UWI, followed by Monday at 9:00 a.m., when Mr Fitzpatrick faces Mr Jarique.

More Than a Game. Reflecting a generation shaped by education, discipline, and opportunity. For UWI Five Islands, this is not just participation. It is the beginning.
