Final Preparations Underway Ahead of Booby Alley Redevelopment Opening

Government officials are making final preparations for the official opening of the Booby Alley Redevelopment Project, with a high-level coordination meeting held Friday to assess the status of outstanding work and operational readiness.
Housing Minister Rawdon Turner chaired the meeting with representatives of the China Aid Housing Team, contractors, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), the Public Works Department and other stakeholders as the project enters its final phase.
Turner, who has responsibility for overseeing the completion of the Booby Alley Redevelopment Project and the China Aid Housing Projects in Bolans and Barbuda, received updates from each agency on remaining works and timelines ahead of the planned inauguration.
Discussions extended beyond construction to the long-term operation of the new residential community. Officials reviewed plans for parking management, sewage treatment, garbage collection, landscaping, public lighting, road infrastructure, and the management and maintenance of the development once residents move in.
The minister requested detailed progress reports from all participating agencies and contractors, along with firm completion deadlines. The information will be compiled into a report for Cabinet next Wednesday.
“The successful delivery of this project requires every stakeholder to complete their responsibilities on schedule,” Turner said. “Our focus is not simply on opening the development, but on ensuring residents move into a community that is safe, functional, properly managed and built to serve them for generations.”
The Booby Alley Redevelopment Project was funded through a grant from the Government of China and is one of the largest urban renewal and affordable housing initiatives undertaken in Antigua and Barbuda. The development includes hundreds of apartment units, upgraded roads and sidewalks, parking facilities, children’s play areas, landscaped recreational spaces, modern utility infrastructure, drainage systems and other public amenities.
