A search of a student’s school bag prompted by a father’s concern over a missing kitchen knife led to the discovery of suspected cannabis at a secondary school on Friday.
Reports indicate that the parent contacted the school and asked staff to inspect his 14-year-old son’s backpack after a knife went missing from their home. While no knife was found, school officials reportedly discovered a quantity of cannabis concealed in a plastic bag inside the bag.
The matter was reported to the Criminal Investigations Department shortly before 10:00 a.m., and officers attended the school to collect the substance and the student’s bag.

The teenager was later interviewed at CID headquarters in the presence of his mother. Sources said he told investigators he had left the bag with another person while he went to buy sweets and was unaware the cannabis was inside.
Investigations are ongoing.
