Antigua Port Authority officials are actively considering a new facility in Barbuda, aiming to match the island’s rapid growth.

Port Manager Darwin Telemaque mentioned that the original design for River Dock, shaped by Hurricane Irma’s impact, needs reevaluation due to Barbuda’s changing landscape with increased business activity and tourism development.

Telemaque’s team, led by Evron Zachariah, plans to assess the River Dock project and Barbuda’s overall suitability for the initiative.

This effort aligns with Antigua’s port advancements, such as the $90 million upgrade of the St. John’s port launched in January 2018 under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, managed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corp and funded by a loan from China’s Export-Import Bank.
