Celebrating International Day for Women in Maritime: Honoring Women’s Contributions and Advancing Gender Equality

Today marks the International Day for Women in Maritime, a significant occasion dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the invaluable contributions of women in the maritime industry. This day also serves as a platform to promote the recruitment, retention, and sustained employment of women in this critical sector.

The Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC) – Antigua Barbuda Chapter, alongside the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other women’s organizations worldwide, is committed to raising the profile of women in maritime. WiMAC pledges to support and strengthen the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.

Women in the maritime industry have made remarkable strides, breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes. They have proven their resilience and dedication, paving the way for future generations of women to pursue careers in this field. Their contributions are vital to the industry’s success and sustainability.

WiMAC – Antigua Barbuda Chapter is dedicated to addressing the current gender imbalance in maritime. By supporting initiatives that promote gender equality and creating opportunities for women, WiMAC aims to ensure that women can thrive and advance in their maritime careers.

On this International Day for Women in Maritime, we salute all the women who have been a beacon of light for others in the industry. Your achievements and perseverance inspire us all. As we continue to work towards a more inclusive and equitable maritime sector, let us celebrate the progress made and reaffirm our commitment to gender equality.

Happy International Day for Women in Maritime to all our “Seasters” in the industry!
