Adam Stewart Among Three Jamaicans To Be Conferred With Honorary UCC Doctorate Degrees

Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart and two other outstanding Jamaicans will be conferred with honorary doctoral degrees from the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC).

Stewart, will receive the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) in Business Administration Award, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, will be presented with the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) in Hospitality and Tourism Management Award and Dr Patricia V Smith, will receive the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) in Behavioural Sciences Award.

The trio will accept their degrees during a UCC commencement ceremony to be held in Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Stewart is being honoured for his notable impact on the hospitality, media, automotive, and appliance sectors in Jamaica. This recognition aligns him with his late father, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, who posthumously received an Honorary Doctorate from the UCC in 2022.

Commending the honourees on their accomplishment, UCC President Professor Colin Gyles expressed, “in conferring honorary degrees, the UCC Executive Council & Board, select persons who represent the core values of our university, have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavour and have made outstanding contributions to Jamaica.”

Minister Bartlett is being recognized for his contributions to the growth of the tourism industry and his overarching impact on the Ministry of Tourism, while Dr. Patricia Smith’s accolade celebrates her ongoing philanthropic endeavours in healthcare and nursing, across communities in both the United States and Jamaica.
