Performing acts of kindness, providing comfort, and creating greater awareness of the needs of others, are just a few ways that the Society continues to demonstrate its passion for helping the community.

This week, volunteers from ABPS distributed more than 120 care packages to seniors at two elder care facilities in Harlem.

With the support of several corporate sponsors and private citizens, donations were made to residents at Henry Brooks, as well as Bethany Development Outreach Senior Housing.

According to the President of ABPS, Ms. Mercelle Mason, “This small, but mighty gesture provides support to these senior citizens and lets them know that they are not alone. We want to remind them that they are part of a caring community here in Harlem that is concerne about their well being.”

The care package initiative is designed to acknowledge the power of community and to instill the importance of supporting those in need whether it be financial, emotional or spiritual support.

ABPS aims to help enrich the lives of the less fortunate in the community, by fulfilling some of their basic needs, promoting socialization and community-building, to help improve their overall quality of life.

ABPS is grateful to its members, Wegman’s and Trader Joe’s, as well as private citizens, for their generous support.

About the ABPS

The Antigua and Barbuda Progressive Society (ABPS), headquartered in Harlem, is the longest surviving organization of Antiguans and Barbudans.

It was founded in 1934 during the Great Depression by 22 Antiguans, under the leadership of Bishop James P. Roberts.
