A tropical wave in the central Atlantic continues to have a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone later this week, according to the 8 a.m. Tuesday update.

The system, located about 500 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, is currently producing limited shower and thunderstorm activity.

However, environmental conditions are expected to become more favourable during the next couple of days. A tropical depression will likely form during the latter half of this week as the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic.

The system has a 30% chance of formation within 48 hours and a 70% chance over the next seven days.

Forecasters are also monitoring an area in the subtropical Atlantic where a short-lived system could develop during the next day or so.
