Antiguan Woman Appeals for Support as Stage 4 Cancer Treatment Costs Mount

The family of Antiguan national Lisa Kentish-Francis is appealing to the public for financial assistance as she undergoes life-saving treatment for Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma in Colombia.

Kentish-Francis, 56, is currently preparing for a second stem cell transplant after her cancer relapsed following an earlier transplant. According to her family, the specialized procedure offers her the best chance of recovery but comes with significant medical expenses.

Family members say the hospital bill for the transplant is approximately US$96,000, an amount they are unable to cover on their own. They have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise the remaining funds needed for her treatment.

In an appeal sent to Antigua Newsroom, the family said Lisa’s medical insurance covers only a portion of the costs, leaving them with a substantial financial shortfall.

“Lisa has always been a loving, compassionate, and generous person who has touched the lives of so many,” the family wrote on the fundraising page. “Today, we are asking for that same kindness to be extended to her.”

The campaign describes Kentish-Francis as a devoted mother whose son, Devontae, has remained by her side throughout her cancer journey.

As of Sunday, the fundraiser had raised just over US$10,000 toward its US$60,000 public fundraising goal, with donations from around 60 supporters. The family said every contribution will go directly toward Lisa’s transplant and related medical care.

Those unable to donate are being encouraged to share the fundraiser and keep Kentish-Francis in their thoughts and prayers as she continues her fight against cancer.
