Swimming Federation Seeks Parents for Water Safety Survey

The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (ABSF) is calling on parents and guardians of children between the ages of six and 12 to participate in a survey designed to support the development of a national school swimming and water safety programme.

The initiative comes ahead of World Drowning Prevention Day on July 25 and aims to collect information on the swimming abilities of families across Antigua and Barbuda. According to the federation, the data will be used to help secure funding for a nationwide programme that would provide swimming and water safety education in schools.

The ABSF noted that drowning is the third leading cause of death among children aged four to 14 and stressed the importance of active supervision, swimming and water safety lessons, and CPR training in preventing drowning incidents.

Parents, guardians and caregivers are being encouraged to complete the approximately 10-minute survey at discoverwaterab.com.

The federation said every child deserves to be safe in the water and urged families to support the initiative by participating in the survey.
