Antigua and Barbuda’s Zonique Charles claimed the silver medal in the women’s javelin at the OECS Championships in St. Kitts while setting a new national record.

Competing in the senior ranks, the CARIFTA Games silver medallist produced a throw of 42.92 metres to surpass the previous national record of 41.11 metres.

The old mark was set by Amanda Edward in 2007 during the CARIFTA Games in Turks and Caicos, where she also earned a silver medal.

Charles’ record-breaking performance secured Antigua and Barbuda a silver medal at the championships and established a new national benchmark in the women’s javelin.
