Fake Website Impersonating UWI Under Investigation

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is warning prospective students and the public about a fraudulent website falsely claiming to represent the regional institution and collecting personal information from visitors.

In a public advisory, the university said the website is not authorised, affiliated with or endorsed by UWI, despite using the institution’s name and branding without permission.

UWI said the fake website contains a form requesting personal information, including names, email addresses and telephone numbers. The university stressed that any information submitted through the site is not received by UWI.

The institution urged anyone who may have used the website to be cautious of any follow-up emails, phone calls or messages claiming to be from the university and to avoid sharing any additional personal or financial information.

Prospective students and other stakeholders were reminded that official information about UWI programmes, admissions and partnerships is available only through the university’s official websites, including its campuses in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, the Global Campus and the university’s regional headquarters.

UWI said it has reported the matter to international cybercrime and law enforcement authorities and has begun legal and technical efforts to have the fraudulent website taken offline while working with partners to reduce its impact.

The university said it remains committed to protecting its students, partners and institutional reputation while taking all necessary steps to address the incident.
