Eight Years On, Carlisle Bay Robbery Suspect Still at Large

Eight years after the robbery at Carlisle Bay Resort, police are still searching for Anthony “Thug Life” Govia, who is accused of orchestrating the theft of more than EC$98,000 from the luxury hotel.

Investigators allege Govia and former accounts clerk Kathy-Ann Isaac planned the aggravated robbery, which took place on 30 June 2018. Authorities believe Govia fled Antigua shortly after the incident and he remains on the police wanted list.

The robbery initially appeared to have been carried out by a lone armed man. Security footage showed two employees removing cash from the resort’s safe before a gunman entered and escaped with the money.

Isaac, who had worked at the resort for about 14 years, was initially treated as a victim. However, police later alleged she had helped plan the robbery. She pleaded guilty in 2019 and was sentenced the following year to two years and six months in prison.

Although Isaac has completed her sentence, Govia has never been arrested. Police continue to appeal for information on his whereabouts, warning that anyone who assists or shelters a wanted person could face criminal charges.

The Carlisle Bay Resort case remains one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most high-profile unsolved robbery investigations, with authorities still pursuing the alleged mastermind.
