Employees at Hammock Cove Resort & Spa have elected

the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) as their legally recognised bargaining agent,

marking an important milestone for the resort’s workforce.

On Wednesday, the employees met with ABWU President and Senior Industrial Relations

Officer, Kem Riley, for their first official staff meeting since the union’s certification.

According to Riley, the company has agreed to adopt all existing arrangements in the collective

bargaining agreement covering the Elite Island Resorts, of which Hammock Cove is a subsidiary.

During the meeting, workers were briefed on several provisions that will be afforded to them

through the agreement. One highlight includes a wage increase of $0.50 on the hourly rate,

effective 1 July 2026.

Riley also noted that the collective agreement will formalise the employer’s compliance on

public holiday pay entitlements, ensuring that workers receive a day’s pay or a lieu day when

scheduled off on a public holiday.

The ABWU president encouraged employees to take full advantage of the ABHTA/ABWU

Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, noting that it provides affordable healthcare coverage not

just for workers, but also their families.

Riley reassured workers of the union’s commitment to securing a fair collective agreement that

will improve working conditions and enhance the overall well-being of employees at the resort
