New “Zen” Resort to be constructed at Long Bay

Construction is set to begin on a new hotel development in the Long Bay area with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning, according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant.
Speaking during the post-Cabinet briefing, Merchant said the sod-turning ceremony for the Long Beach Zen Resort forms part of what he described as a packed government agenda following the April 30 general election.
Merchant said the ceremony was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Long Bay area.

“There is the turning of the sod to commence construction of a new hotel property at the Long Bay area,” Merchant said during the briefing.
He identified the project as the Long Bay Beach Zen Resort and indicated that further details about the development are expected to be released during the launch ceremony.
The planned resort development comes as the Gaston Browne administration continues efforts to expand tourism investment and hotel infrastructure across Antigua and Barbuda.
Merchant linked the upcoming launch to what he described as increased government activity and productivity following the elections.
“Prime Minister demands productivity and high quality of productivity from all of its ministers and so far they have been living up to the expectations,” Merchant said.
The groundbreaking ceremony is one of two major events highlighted by Merchant during the briefing.
He also announced that the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority would officially open its new headquarters at V.C. Bird International Airport later Thursday afternoon.
Officials have not yet disclosed the scale, investment value or expected completion timeline for the Long Bay Beach Zen Resort project.
