The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has issued a Small Craft Advisory for Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands due to hazardous marine conditions affecting Atlantic waters up to 20 nautical miles offshore.

Forecasters warned of moderate to fresh winds, rough seas and dangerous swells, with wave heights reaching up to 2.7 metres (9 feet). Wind speeds are expected to range between 15 and 21 knots, with stronger gusts possible.

The advisory for Antigua is in effect tonight until dawn and will return Monday morning through Tuesday pre-dawn. In Barbuda, hazardous conditions are expected tonight into Sunday morning and again from Monday morning to Tuesday morning.

Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands are expected to experience deteriorating marine conditions from Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

Meteorological officials warned that the conditions could be dangerous for small vessels, increasing the risk of capsizing, vessel damage, injuries and possible loss of life at sea. Fisheries and marine transportation could also face disruptions.

Inexperienced mariners and operators of small craft are being urged to avoid navigating during the advisory period.

The Meteorological Services said residents should continue monitoring official updates through Radio and TV, social media platforms and its website.
