UWI Five Islands Inter-Campus Guild Council Meeting Delegation in St. Vincent

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus continues to strengthen its regional presence as its Guild of Students delegation participates in the 2026 final leg of the Inter-Campus Guild Council (ICGC) Conference currently being hosted by the UWI Global Campus in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from May 10th to 17th, 2026. The conference brings together student leaders from across the UWI system to engage in discussions surrounding student advocacy, governance, leadership development, and the advancement of higher education across the Caribbean region.
Representing The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus at this year’s conference are Guild President Kerron McKenzie, who is leading the delegation, Guild President-Elect Jake Taylor, Postgraduate Representative Kimon Drigo, and School of Science, Computing and Artificial Intelligence Representative Shanese Archibald. Together, the delegation joins student leaders from the Mona, Cave Hill, St. Augustine, and Global campuses in collaborative discussions aimed at strengthening the collective student movement across the region.
The ICGC serves as one of the most significant regional student leadership platforms within the UWI system, allowing student representatives to address pressing issues affecting students while also developing recommendations and strategic proposals designed to improve the overall student experience. Discussions throughout the conference will focus on student welfare, academic support, regional integration, student mobility, leadership development, governance, and institutional collaboration.

Speaking on the importance of the conference, Guild President Kerron McKenzie emphasized the value of regional collaboration and youth leadership within the university system:
“The Inter-Campus Guild Council Conference is more than just meetings and discussions; it is a platform where young leaders across the Caribbean come together to share reports, address real challenges affecting students, and develop proposals and practical solutions that can positively impact the wider UWI community. As the newest campus within the UWI system, Five Islands remains committed to ensuring that our students are represented at the regional level while continuing to grow and contribute meaningfully to the future direction of student leadership, advocacy, and regional development across the Caribbean.
Being a part of student leadership bodies such as Guild committees and campus organizations plays a significant role in shaping young leaders at the highest level. These experiences help students develop critical skills in leadership, communication, advocacy, public speaking, teamwork, governance, and problem-solving while also exposing them to regional and international opportunities.
We have seen firsthand how involvement in student leadership can create pathways for national and regional impact. Quite recently, a former Guild committee member, Mr. Shaquan O’Neil, who previously served as the Level 3 Representative for the School of Business and Management, was appointed as a Senator. His journey reflects how student governance and campus involvement can prepare young people for positions of national leadership and public service.
Initiatives such as these encourage students to step outside of their comfort zones, become active contributors within their communities, and build networks that can shape both their professional and personal development. Student leadership is not only about representing peers, but also about creating future leaders who can make a meaningful contribution to society.”
McKenzie also commended the efforts of the hosting campus, the UWI Global Campus Guild of Students, along with the various Guild Presidents and delegations participating in the conference for their continued commitment to regional unity, collaboration, and student development.
The Five Islands delegation is expected to actively contribute to policy discussions, leadership sessions, outreach initiatives, and strategic planning engagements throughout the week-long conference. Participation in the ICGC further highlights the Five Islands Campus’ growing role within the regional UWI community and its ongoing commitment to advocacy, innovation, and student-centered leadership.
