Malaka Parker Sworn In as Opposition Senator

Malaka Parker was on Monday sworn in as an opposition senator during a ceremony at Government House presided over by Deputy Governor General Sir Clare Roberts.
Parker received her instruments of appointment and formally took the oath after missing last week’s initial investiture ceremony because of what opposition officials previously described as extenuating circumstances that required overseas travel.
Her appointment completes the opposition’s representation in the Upper House ahead of Wednesday’s sitting of the Senate.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle and Barbuda MP Trevor Walker expressed regret that they were unable to attend the ceremony because they are currently overseas attending to personal matters.
The two opposition figures also extended congratulations to Parker and wished her “a productive and successful tenure” on the Senate’s Opposition Bench.
Parker later shared photographs from the ceremony on social media with the caption: “We present to you, Senator Malaka Parker, your humble servant.”
