PM Calls for Unity After Election, Says Victory Should Not Divide Nation

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called for national unity following the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s election victory, saying the outcome of the polls should bring the country together rather than deepen political divisions.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service Sunday at the St. John’s Pentecostal Church House of Restoration, Browne said Antigua and Barbuda must move toward becoming a “more harmonious society” despite political differences.
“So I do not expect this victory to divide us. Instead, it should unite us,” Browne told the congregation.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to move beyond partisan and religious divisions and work collectively toward national development.
“So let us not move forward as different political institutions, different religious denominations, but as reborn Antiguans and Barbudans who are working harmoniously to build this country,” he said.
Browne made the remarks as government ministers, senators-designate, church leaders and supporters gathered for a national thanksgiving service following the ABLP’s fourth consecutive general election victory.
He said the country has the potential to become “the envy of others globally” if citizens unite behind national development goals.
The Prime Minister also linked unity to economic and social advancement, saying opportunities were being created for Antiguans and Barbudans in areas including education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and ownership.
During the service, Browne thanked supporters, candidates and what he described as “prayer warriors” for helping the party secure victory and for praying for peaceful elections.
The service blended worship, scripture readings and political reflection, with church leaders repeatedly emphasizing gratitude, national healing and collective responsibility.
Several speakers also referred to Friday’s earthquake that shook Antigua and Barbuda and neighboring islands, describing the country’s safety as another reason for national thanksgiving and unity.
