Prime Minister Gaston Browne says infrastructure and development projects launched before the April 30 general election will continue as the government presses ahead with what it describes as a national “Renaissance” agenda.

Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne dismissed suggestions that ongoing roadworks, housing developments and beautification initiatives were temporary election projects, insisting that the administration intends to continue and expand the work following the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s landslide victory.

“We are not simply managing a system. We are transforming it,” Browne said while discussing the government’s wider development plans.

The prime minister said the administration remains focused on infrastructure upgrades, housing expansion, environmental improvements and climate resilience projects across Antigua and Barbuda.

“We’re pushing to not only clean up the entire country, get rid of all these derelict properties and so on, but at the same time to beautify our country,” Browne said during discussions on public works and environmental maintenance efforts.

He also pointed to ongoing roadworks and housing projects as evidence that the government’s development programme was continuing beyond the election period.

Among the projects highlighted by Browne and government officials in recent weeks are road rehabilitation works, rent-to-own housing developments, landscaping initiatives and expanded climate-resilient infrastructure.

Browne argued that the government had already secured financing for several major initiatives and said the administration would continue investing in roads, housing, tourism infrastructure and community development.

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party won 15 of the country’s 17 parliamentary seats in the April 30 election, securing a fourth consecutive term in office.
