Antigua anticipates long-term benefits from hosting Caribbean Travel Marketplace

CMC – Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James, has expressed confidence that the country’s hosting of the 44th Caribbean Hotels and Tourism Association’s (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace will generate lasting economic and promotional benefits for local businesses.
The event, scheduled for May 12–15, 2026, at the American University of Antigua Conference Centre, is expected to attract more than 500 delegates from across the global tourism industry.
James emphasized that the presence of over 40 international media representatives will significantly enhance Antigua and Barbuda’s visibility in key overseas markets.

“Having a crew of 40-odd international press from the hospitality sector in Antigua can only be good news for us because they do help us to tell our story and to really help to raise the profile of the destination,” James stated.
In addition to media coverage, organizers are incorporating locally produced goods into delegate gift packages, including jams and hot sauces, to provide direct exposure for small businesses. James noted that such initiatives will ensure that the benefits of hosting extend beyond the conference itself, supporting local entrepreneurs and service providers.
Reflecting on last year’s experience, James expressed confidence in Antigua and Barbuda’s logistical capacity to accommodate delegates across multiple hotels and to facilitate efficient transport between the airport, accommodations, and the conference venue. He highlighted the role of local transportation providers in ensuring smooth operations.
During the staging of Caribbean Travel Marketplace, Antigua and Barbuda aims to position itself as a leading destination in the region, leveraging international exposure, product promotion, and efficient infrastructure to future-proof its tourism economy.
