UPP Leader Pringle Says Party Would Review List of Food Items That Don’t Attract ABST

UPP Leader Pringle Says Party Would Review Basket of Goods as Part of Cost-of-Living Plan
United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Jamale Pringle says a UPP administration would review the basket of goods and expand cost-of-living relief measures, including extending the barrel concession throughout the year.
Addressing supporters during a recent campaign event, Pringle said the current list of essential items would be reassessed to better reflect the needs of consumers.
“We are going to review the basket of goods,” Pringle said, as he outlined plans to ease pressure on household budgets.
He added that the party would look at expanding the list to ensure more everyday items benefit from duty concessions, arguing that existing measures are not keeping pace with rising prices.
Pringle also pointed to changes to the barrel initiative as part of the UPP’s broader approach to reducing costs.
“That barrel initiative will not just be for Christmas — it will be year-round, from January straight to December,” he said.
The UPP leader said the combination of measures is intended to provide more consistent relief to families struggling with the cost of living.
“These are practical measures to help people manage,” Pringle said, adding that the party’s focus is on making basic goods more affordable.
Cost-of-living issues have become a central theme in the campaign ahead of the April 30 general election, with both major parties outlining competing proposals aimed at easing financial pressures on households.
