Retired school teacher Miriam Samuel, has begun the 90 day countdown to her 90th birthday. As part of the celebration, she observed “Random Acts of Kindness Day” on 17th February by distributing “Kindness Gift Bags” laden with products from her small agri-products small business Screw Pine.

Accompanied by her son Clement and granddaughter Tiffany, Mrs Samuel ventured to the parking lot at Epicurean supermarket to distribute the “Kindness Gift Bags” that contained  her handcrafted products — jams, jellies, wines, soaps, body oils, herbal teas and more. All of the products are natural and most of the ingredients are grown in her backyard garden.

Recipients of the “Kindness Gift Bags” were surprised and sincerely appreciated the gesture.  Jerome Simon from Glanvilles, one of Mrs. Samuel’s former students at Pares Secondary School, was the first to receive a gift bag. Bernard Richardson, a former student at Ottos Comprehensive School also received a gift bag. These products offer a sense of nostalgia, and create an opportunity for locals at home and abroad to indulge in many familiar Antiguan and Barbudan flavors and aromas. As part of her grand Birthday celebration, the Samuel family will continue to showcase their matriarch’s range of products, to share her faith, passion and knowledge throughout the community.

“I have practiced kindness all my life and a little kindness goes a long way. I believe that doing small, nice things for others can make a big difference. It’s like dropping a stone in water. Small deeds of kindness can spread out and make someone’s day better. Kindness is contagious and I encourage everyone to share kindness.” Mrs. Samuel said.

The “90 Days to 90 Years” campaign will end on Mother’s Day, May 12th 2024, which is also Miriam’s 90th Birthday.
