YEEP Marks 10 Years, Expands Programs and Outreach

The Department of Youth Education and Empowerment (YEEP) marked its 10th anniversary on Sunday with a gala under the theme “Reflections,” highlighting a decade of providing academic and personal development opportunities to thousands of young people.
Officials said the programme has reached more than 8,000 individuals since its launch, offering CXC preparation, mentorship, entrepreneurship training and personal development support to participants who might otherwise have been left behind.
The event drew the support of Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams and Social and Urban Transformation Minister Warren Turner, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the initiative.
YEEP, which began with four employees, now operates with 25 tutors and 14 ancillary staff members.
Founding Director Dr. Troy Allen announced plans for further growth, including the addition of three computer labs to support online CXC examinations, the introduction of Spanish and Theatre Arts from April 1, and the opening of a satellite branch in Boleyns within two months.
